White/National/Kenmore

The White Sewing Machine Company was second only to Singer in number of sewing machines manufactured. Numerous other companies came and went in the U.S. over the years, including National, Davis, Domestic, and New Home. Many of these companies "badged" their machines, i.e., manufactured machines for sale by other companies, and put that company's name, or "badge," on the machine. National, for instance, manufactured many machines that bore the "Montgomery Ward" logo, and White manufactured many early machines with Sears' "Kenmore" badge on them.

White is well known for exceptional quality in their cabinets. They maintained their own forests to supply the wood for their cabinetmakers. Two sites with lots of information about Whites are Treadle On and Katie Farmer's.
